Because the exam is around the corner, it’s time to level up your study game students!

When exam is near, we all know what that means — late-night study sessions, endless notes, and the classic “I will start tomorrow” mentality. But don’t stress, dear students — I got you! Whether you’re just getting started or already deep in revision mode, using the right study techniques can be a real game-changer! Here are 5 tried-and-true study techniques every NBUC student should try to boost focus, understanding, and memory retention.

1. Pomodoro Technique – Study Smart, Not Long

Some people find themselves able to concentrate well for longer periods, while others struggle after just a few minutes — and that’s totally okay. The Pomodoro Technique is a proven, effective study method that helps manage your time effectively. Set a timer for 25 minutes of focused studying, then take a 5-minute break. After 4 sessions, take a longer 15–30 minute break. This method:
  • ✅ Helps with focus
  • ✅ Prevents burnout
  • ✅ Makes big tasks feel manageable

2. Active Recall – Stop Just Reading, Start Remembering!

Active Recall is one of the most powerful study strategies, tested by both students and research. Instead of rereading notes, actively test yourself. Try this:

  • Close your book and try to recall what you just learned
  • Use flashcards, past-year questions, or even quiz yourself out loud

This technique boosts long-term memory — perfect for exam season.

💡 Tip: Use apps like Anki or Quizlet for digital flashcards.

4. Feynman Technique – Teach What You Learn

Also known as the “teach it to learn it” method, this technique involves breaking down a concept into simple components and then explaining it in your own words — as if you were teaching someone else. If you can teach it, you really understand it! Try explaining topics to a friend, a study group, or even your pet 😄

  • 🎙️ You’ll find out what you don’t know
  • 🎯 Reinforces your understanding

Bonus: Form a mini discussion group with classmates to challenge each other!

5. Form an Effective Study Group – Study Together, Learn Better

Studying with friends isn’t just more fun — it actually helps you learn better! Forming a study group is one of the most effective ways to deepen learning through peer teaching or group discussions. It’s less stressful and more motivating.
